Abstract
The detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA became to be performed rapidly and exactly owing to advancement of immunohistochemistry and molecular biology.
To investigate the infection site, detection rate and prevalent subtypes of HPV in 22 cases with laryngeal papilloma, HPV DNA was detected by one hour in situ hybridization (ISH).
In immunohistochemical study, 3 of 8 cases were positive in juvenile type, and 3 of 14 cases in adult type were positive. Five of 16 cases were positive in male, and 1 of 6 cases was positive in female.
In one hour ISH, 19 cases (86.4%) were positive for HPV type 6/11 probe. Eleven cases (78.6%) of 14 cases in adult type were positive and all eight cases in juvenile type were positive for HPV type 6/11 probe. But all cases were negative for HPV
type
16/18 and 31/33/35 probe.
The one hour ISH has the advantage of demonstrating subtypes and location of infected cell by HPV without crushing of tissue and moreover it can be done more rapidly and safely with higher specificity and sensitivity than previous other ISH
technique.
